Reese
Barkhuizen
Originating from South Africa and currently based in Toronto, Canada, pianist Reese Barkhuizen enjoys critical acclaim as a concert pianist, collaborative artist and teacher.
As well as competing in several international piano competitions, Reese's performances and studies have taken him from Cape Town to Finland, China, Estonia, the USA and the United Kingdom. He has appeared regularly, since a young age, as soloist with symphony, string and chamber orchestras and has a vast number of concerti in his repertoire.
Reese is passionate about collaborative work and appears regularly in concert with internationally acclaimed instrumentalists. He is a sought-after collaborative pianist for instrumental and vocal students in conservatory programs. As a postgraduate performance major at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Reese performed in renowned venues in and around Finland's capital city in solo recital and in a collaborative capacity.
As an educator, Reese has taught students at some of South Africa's most prestigious institutions. He is currently the director of music at the Sunnybrook School in Toronto. Reese continues to inspire and motivate students through his innovative and individualized manner of instruction while maintaining a busy performance schedule.
